Spanish Holidays – Barcelona and Ibiza

A few years ago, my wife and I enjoyed a fantastic holiday in Spain taking in a frenetic city break and a relaxing and sun soaked beach holiday. We really got the best of both worlds with Barcelona being our choice of city break and Ibiza our beach destination.

We opted for Barcelona as we had already visited previously back in the nineties and had thoroughly enjoyed the city. Our own personal highlights back in the day were climbing to the top of the Sagrada Familia, visiting the Olympic site at Montjuic, strolling down La Ramblas and venturing out of town to the other worldly mountains and monastery at Montserrat.

On our second visit, Barcelona didn’t disappoint. Gaudi’s outrageous architecture was still as mesmerising and The Ramblas just as busy and full of life. Although it must be said, the thoroughfare if full of pickpockets and general petty thieves. Travellers must beware and keep their wits about them when on the street at night. Generally speaking, keep your wallet or purse in a hip pocket as opposed to a back pocket and don;t have any flashy cameras or valuables on show.

We stayed in a spacious block at the foot of The Ramblas and it was extremely convenient for all manner of things. A personal favourite was Los Caracoles (The Snails in English) restaurant in the heart of the old town. The restaurant was actually featured in an episode of Keith Floyd’s cookery programme.

And so on to Ibiza, the party capital of Europe. We spent a happy week here idling on the beaches and frequenting the bars. We watched the sunset at Cafe Del Mar and ate at Cafe Mambo. People say Ibiza has a special atmosphere, and it’s true. The island really does have something special that I can’ t quite put my finger on. Maybe it’s something to do with the history of the island and it’s legendary stories of parties and good times.

So if you’re looking for a fantastic holiday that’s maybe not too far from home, then Spain has it all. A Spanish holiday cannot fail to disappoint.

Fabulous Family Vacation Destinations

When planning a trip for your family to go on, your list of priorities probably consist of your budget, safety of the destination, and somewhere that would be fun for everybody in your family. Doing research of all of these items can take a lot of time, so it’s best to have an idea already in mind and then further your research towards the idea. Finding the best family vacation destinations can take some time but you also need to remember that the top family vacation destinations for others may not be a family vacation destination that works well for you.

For example, if you have kids and teenagers going on this vacation, it would be best to try and find a place that’s fun for all of them, so nobody ends up bored. A great family vacation destination for that would be Disneyland. Disneyland has an online website that offers packaged deals for the entire family so you won’t have to worry about where to stay or standing in line for hours just to purchase tickets.

Disneyland is great for the whole family because there are two different parks. One is the original park that includes lots of rides for smaller kids, and then California Adventure which features an upside roller coaster for the teenagers, who are looking for a thrill. They have great hotel deals all around the park, so you won’t be stuck in one that you will soon regret.

Another great destination spot would be Hawaii. There is so much more to do as a family in Hawaii, even if you are the type that likes to go your separate ways once unpacking your clothes. There is the beach, great restaurants, and lots of activities to do for tourists. Some include bike riding, surfing lessons and horseback riding on the beach. And if you’re just interested in relaxing and spending time with your family, then just spending time on the beautiful beaches would be a perfect idea, especially if you bring food products to cook on the beach, such as hot dogs.

Getting away from the same old routine around the house is a great way to reconnect with members of the family. Restaurants are great because you have a chance to sit around eating great food and chatting about the latest news going on with everybody. Great vacation spots that have wonderful restaurants would be, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, and even Las Vegas. Any major city usually has upbeat restaurants that are fun and have a different type of theme for any kind of family, so it’s easy to pick one.
